Mission Statement and Philosophy
Mission Statement
The mission of the Andromeda Electric Orchestra is to perform traditional and modern music with electric musical instruments with originality, creativity and innovation.
The Philosophy and core beliefs of AEO
The Andromeda Electric Orchestra strives to connect its audience with the orchestra. Through the power of the language of music, AEO brings the audience music that each individual can relate and understand. The orchestra itself has been traditionally considered an ensemble for Classical Music, however as a whole it is a large scale group that can perform and interpret many genres of musical tastes and views. AEO believes that an orchestral concert is a conversation between audience and performers. Through the personal power of music, AEO builds bridges so that it is inclusive of all musical languages.
The relevance of the sounds of AEO culturally and to the community
The current period of music has brought many different elements into music. The concept of electric instruments, including the keyboard, the guitar, bass have all become a tradition for electric amplification with effects to create new sounds. This bridges through many styles of music, including Rock N Roll, Jazz, and even Disco of the 70s and modern dance music. These have all become relevant to modern culture. Classical and traditional instruments have joined this evolution, especially the electric violin and cello; creating the sounds that an electric guitar would. These are the relevant sounds of the modern culture. AEO is the first ever ensemble to explore this sound world to an entire orchestra. This brings relevance to modern culture and what people of all diverse backgrounds have grown to understand as part of their musical experience. AEO brings this sound and incorporates it with the traditional sound to an entire orchestra to expand the boundaries of orchestral sounds
Music education to the community
AEO believes in bring music education to the community. It is essential that students of all diverse backgrounds learn about music. This is inclusive of students in the underprivileged regions. It is essential that all students understand that music is a part of culture and the impact it makes on their daily lives. All students should have a full education, which includes learning a musical instrument, music history and music of all cultures. This education is to teach students not how different each culture is, but how they are similar and that the musical language crosses all bridges and barriers of communication. AEO is dedicated towards the growth and development of music for all students and brings that into practice in its philosophy and practice.AEO brings diversity in musical performance
AEO is an electric orchestra makes use of synthesizers, EWI, and electric percussion in performance. This gives the ability to create world musical instruments at any given time. Instead of finding musical instruments that would be either difficult to find or costly to rent/ purchase. The orchestra can switch to these instruments and perform music from a world perspective; from Asian music, African music, Native American Music, and folk music of many cultures. This is importance and essential as many traditional orchestras in order to create these sounds either make use it with the traditional instruments or find these instruments, creating a large budget. Combined with these instruments and effects, AEO can also create fusion world music, a very popular musical genre.
This brings inclusion into the orchestra of various cultures. The music can be arrangements of traditional world music and newly composed music. This is relevant in a changing landscape of the orchestra where diversity and inclusion is essential to cater to a wider audience, particularly in a diverse region as Los Angeles.
