Dr. Alfred Surenyan, Music Director
Dr. Alfred Surenyan is a composer, conductor, musicologist, and music educator based in Los Angeles, and the Founder and Music Director of the Andromeda Electric Orchestra. He earned his Bachelor of Music (1997) and Master of Music (2001) from California State University, Northridge, and completed his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Music Composition at Claremont Graduate University in 2009, with additional studies in music technology and musicology.
Dr. Surenyan’s work spans orchestral, choral, chamber, and electro-acoustic music. His compositions have been performed by professional musicians throughout Southern California and reflect a deep commitment to expressive storytelling, innovative orchestration, and the integration of traditional and modern musical languages. While he composes for a wide range of ensembles and projects, his artistic vision is strongly reflected in original works written for the Andromeda Electric Orchestra.
Driven by a desire to reimagine the concert experience, Dr. Surenyan founded the Andromeda Electric Orchestra as a fusion of classical tradition and contemporary electric instrumentation. The ensemble blends acoustic strings, winds, and percussion with electric violins, electronic wind instruments, and other modern technologies—creating a dynamic sound world that bridges centuries of musical development. Under his direction, AEO champions diverse composers and seeks to connect audiences with music in bold, imaginative ways.
In addition to his artistic work, Dr. Surenyan is the owner of Zela Music Group Inc., which includes Pasha Music Production, Pasha Music Education, and Avid Reader Music (publishing). He has taught music composition, theory, audio production, and music technology at institutions including The Art Institute of California – Inland Empire, Pilibos Armenian School, and Pasadena City College, as well as through private instruction.
Born in Istanbul, Turkey, Dr. Surenyan immigrated to the United States at the age of five and was raised in Los Angeles, where he continues to compose, conduct, and develop innovative musical projects.
