Mark K. Day
Mark K. Day is a professional woodwind player from Orange County, California. After studying clarinet with David Atkins and conducting with Larry G. Curtis at California State University, Long Beach, Mark began a 40-year career in higher education administration, working at CSU campuses in Long Beach, Northridge, Fullerton, and at UC Irvine and Laguna College of Art + Design.
With the Andromeda Electric Orchestra, Mark performs on two relatively rare instruments: the EWI, an electronic wind instrument made by Akai, and the NuRad, a wind synthesizer made by Berglund Instruments in Sweden.
Mark enjoys playing all genres of music. Beyond his specialization in electronic wind instruments, you can see him appearing regularly throughout Southern California on bass clarinet, Bb soprano clarinet, and all members of the saxophone family. He currently performs with a number of organizations including the Southern California Philharmonic Orchestra, South Coast Swing Big Band, Rose City Rhythm Band and the Long Beach Community Band. Previously, he has played with the Orange Coast Symphony, Long Beach Municipal Band, Downey Civic Light Opera, Long Beach Civic Light Opera, and with big bands including Moonlight Express, the Frank Palminteri Big Band, Windmill, and the Gem City Jazz Cats.
Mark has played on numerous recording sessions, including work for the Walt Disney Company and with Greg Adam’s East Bay Soul group.
In addition to his ensemble work, Mark maintains a busy schedule on solo saxophone- playing jazz, rock, pop, Brazilian samba and other genres at private functions. He can be reached for booking at solosaxdude@gmail.com.
